Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision has produced 32,36,659 “unmapped” electors — and, so far, no public technical explanation for why the mapping failed. The Election Commission is using the 2002 electoral rolls as a reference, while reports from voters and field-level staff describe problems with Telugu-only records, spelling variations, polling-station details and uploading entries.
One report quoted a voter who said her family found its 2002 records but still received unmapped notices. An unnamed Booth Level Officer said the application rejected even minor differences in names, including surnames used instead of initials. That is evidence of a reported problem, not proof of a confirmed software defect: the Telangana CEO’s office and the ECI have not published an error log, technical note or official confirmation of the glitch.
The CEO, C. Sudarshan Reddy, has said that absence from the 2002 roll alone will not lead to deletion. Affected voters can submit one of 12 approved identity documents and correct spelling errors during verification and the claims-and-objections process.
The election machinery has supplied the reassurance. It has not supplied the bug report.
