₹4,000 promise, ₹2,016 on paper
Congress sold Cheyutha as ₹4,000 a month. Two years on, government pages still show ₹2,016 for most pensioners and ₹4,016 for disability. The BJP won’t help, the TDP won’t care — but the Congress in Telangana wrote this promise itself.

Congress campaigned in 2023 on Cheyutha: ₹4,000 a month in pensions — for senior citizens, widows, persons with disabilities and other categories — and said it would deliver after taking office. The state’s own documents confirm Cheyutha was one of the six guarantees the government pledged to implement. That is the record.
The other record: the amounts being paid. District government pages in 2026 still list ₹2,016 for most categories and ₹4,016 for disability pensions. No government order on a ₹4,000 rollout is on the public-facing pages we checked; the official Cheyutha portal shows live beneficiary lists but not a revised rate.
The government’s Socio-Economic Outlook 2024 meanwhile boasts that over 43 lakh people received pensions between December 2023 and May 2024 — volume is not the problem; the rate is. If the Congress in Telangana intended to phase Cheyutha in, it hasn’t said so in the documents it publishes. If it meant ₹4,000 from day one, the pages reflecting ₹2,016/₹4,016 are a contradiction in its own house.
This isn’t a Centre-versus-state alibi either. The BJP-led Centre didn’t make the promise; the Congress government in Telangana did, on the floor of the Legislature through the Governor’s address. Voters can read the number; they can also read the current rate. One of those will have to move.
As for the TDP, its priorities stop at Andhra. Telangana’s pension promise is Telangana’s to keep — and to explain when it isn’t.
