₹6,000 crore promised, retirees still queue

Retired employees and contractors were at Telangana’s Dr B R Ambedkar Secretariat on September 28 over pending payments, according to a published report. BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao criticised the Congress government, saying small contractors’ bills and retirees’ dues remained pending while larger contractors were being paid.

The government had already announced the problem in its own paperwork. In a May 2 press release, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said ₹6,000 crore would be disbursed for retirement benefits within 100 days. Yet a September 17 report recorded retired employees queuing at the Finance Department for GPF, pensions, bills and other arrears. The release orders and department-wise payment data are not public in the material reviewed.

Harish Rao also referred to earlier contractor allegations that 20–30% commissions were demanded to clear bills, and alleged that police were used to stop people raising grievances. Those claims remain allegations: no complaint, investigation record, police order or contractor testimony was found. The Congress government has not publicly answered the wider questions on who is still unpaid, how much remains due, or where the promised ₹6,000 crore went. The promise had 100 days; the queue had its own calendar.
