The August 3 deadline for submitting SIR enumeration forms in Telangana has passed. As of July 25 — the last status published in the record we could locate — 92,25,211 electors had still not turned in their forms, against 3,38,26,448 distributed and 2,46,01,237 submitted, according to figures reported from the SIR status report. The state CEO and Hyderabad DEO had urged households to finish the paperwork before the extended cut-off.
The Election Commission first slated house-to-house visits for June 25–July 24 with a July 31 draft roll, then extended form submission by 10 days to August 3 and moved draft publication to August 10, per the revised schedule reported in mid-July. As of August 4, we could not locate a publicly accessible, statewide post-deadline submission count or an official post-deadline note from the CEO/ECI on totals or reconciliation.
Meanwhile, the Congress and the BJP prefer theatrics to clarity. Congress leaders alleged a conspiracy to delete pro-Congress votes; the BJP claimed its supporters were being scrubbed while insisting the SIR only targets dead and duplicate entries. BRS’s line has been simpler: protect genuine voters and use tech to kill duplicates, one citizen one vote. The test lands on August 10 — if the draft roll arrives on that date and includes eligible Telangana voters without partisan games, not just press quotes about them.
