92.88 lakh notices, one very long voter list

Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision has generated notices for 92.88 lakh voters, according to reports citing Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy. The figure reportedly includes about 60 lakh voters with anomalies and roughly 32 lakh who could not be linked to the 2002 base roll. That is a notice pool, not a list of 92.88 lakh “bogus voters”. The paperwork has already acquired more certainty than the evidence.

The Election Commission’s schedule places notice disposal between July 31 and September 28, with the final roll due on October 1, 2026. Its voter portal allows electors to submit documents against a notice. Reports quoting the CEO’s office say a name cannot be deleted from the draft roll without notice, an inquiry and a fair opportunity to be heard. Non-response alone is not documented as an automatic deletion order.

K. T. Rama Rao and the BRS have alleged that the Congress and BJP could use the exercise to target opposition supporters and have warned of legal action if eligible voters are removed. That allegation has not been established by constituency-wise, booth-wise or party-wise data. The Election Commission asks parties to appoint booth-level agents for participation. The Congress and BJP have not publicly answered the targeting allegation in the material reviewed. Telangana’s voters are therefore being asked to navigate a 92.88-lakh-notice exercise while the parties responsible for the political noise leave the evidence to do the walking.
