Ahead of CM tour, ‘house arrests’ in Suryapet
A report says BRS leaders and volunteers were held or blocked before Revanth Reddy’s Nagarjunasagar visit. The Congress government in Telangana hasn’t explained why.
Police action preceded the reported Nagarjunasagar tour, without a public explanation of its legal basis.
A report published at 1:59 pm on August 10 says police in parts of Suryapet district placed several BRS leaders and members of voluntary organisations under house arrest or took them into preventive custody ahead of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s planned Nagarjunasagar visit.
According to the report, Tirumalagiri police took “a few BRS leaders” into custody; Tripuraram police picked up “a few BRS and BJP leaders”; in Tungaturthy mandal “many BRS leaders” were kept under house arrest; and Arvapally police detained former ZPTC member D Veeraprasad Yadav and others. In Suryapet, A Janaki Reddy, convenor of the Railway Sadhana Samithi, was also taken into custody. Protesters raised slogans against the Congress government over what they called illegal arrests. The report does not state how many people were held, under which sections, or for how long.
There is no publicly available police note, custody memo or CMO schedule confirming the visit or the detentions. The Congress government has not bothered to explain the grounds, the numbers, or the law used — which is exactly how you turn a routine tour into a gag order story.
