AIMIM has expelled Telangana Legislative Council member Mirza Rahmath Baig with immediate effect and ordered him to resign. The party’s statement, issued by joint secretary S.A. Hussain Anwar, gives the instruction but not the reason. Administrative transparency, apparently, remains an optional extra.
The Telangana government’s Council directory still lists Baig as an AIMIM member from the Hyderabad Local Authorities constituency. ThePrint reported that Council chairman Gutha Sudhakar Reddy had not received Baig’s resignation letter by August 30. Baig has said he will not resign, arguing that expulsion from the party does not automatically end his Council membership.
The dispute also involves an unauthenticated video. Baig says it was AI-generated and that callers threatened to blackmail him; reports say Hyderabad Cybercrime Police registered a case over the alleged threats. That establishes a complaint, not the truth of either side’s account. The alleged sexual misconduct has not been established by a police finding, forensic report or court record.
AIMIM has issued the expulsion. It has not publicly explained the grounds. The resignation, for now, exists mainly as an instruction from the party and not as a document received by the Council.
