AIMIM expels Baig; Council seat stays put
The party demanded his resignation. Baig says he will not quit, leaving the Legislative Council with a political standoff and several unanswered questions.

AIMIM has expelled Telangana Legislative Council member Mirza Rahmath Baig with immediate effect and asked him to resign from the Council, according to a statement issued by party joint secretary S.A. Hussain Anwar. The party’s instruction was admirably brief: “He must immediately submit his resignation to the chairman of the legislative council.” It did not explain why he was expelled.
Baig represents the Hyderabad local authorities’ constituency, according to the Telangana government’s legislative directory. Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy said, “I have not received any resignation from Rahmat Baig so far.” A later report said Baig had refused to resign and argued that leaving AIMIM did not itself require him to surrender his Council seat.
Baig has said material being circulated about him was AI-generated or manipulated and has denied wrongdoing. Reports also say he approached Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police over alleged threats and demands for money, but the FIR and its current status have not been published in the material reviewed.
The constitutional provisions cited in the research distinguish resignation or vacation of a seat from disqualification. Nothing reviewed establishes that Baig has resigned, that a resignation has been accepted, or that a formal disqualification process has begun. AIMIM has issued the demand; the Council seat, for now, remains where it was.
