AIMIM expels MLC, but keeps the reason secret
Mirza Rahmath Baig has been told to resign from the Telangana Legislative Council. The party has not said why, and the seat is not vacant yet.

AIMIM has expelled Telangana Legislative Council member Mirza Rahmath Baig with immediate effect and directed him to resign from the Council. The party’s statement, attributed to joint secretary S.A. Hussain Anwar, gives no reason. Administrative efficiency, at least in the paperwork: one order, one unexplained expulsion.
The Telangana government’s Council directory lists Baig as an AIMIM member representing Local Authorities (Hyderabad). His resignation has not been confirmed, and the Council seat is not automatically vacant because a party expelled him. Under Article 190(3)(b) of the Constitution, a resignation must be submitted in writing to the Chairman and accepted before the seat becomes vacant.
Separately, reports say Baig approached Hyderabad Cybercrime Police over alleged extortion calls and threats to circulate morphed photographs or deepfake videos. Police reportedly registered a case. The available material does not establish any connection between that complaint and AIMIM’s action. The party has not publicly explained the expulsion, while the resignation remains a direction rather than a completed constitutional event.
