BRS is calling out a quiet surrender: that the Congress government in Telangana has green‑lit Andhra Pradesh’s Polavaram–Banakacherla link and will sign an MoU in the first week of September. The punchline is missing — the document. The only “confirmation” so far is an anonymously sourced report and Chandrababu Naidu’s September drumroll. That proves Andhra’s intent, not Telangana’s consent.
What is on the record: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said Telangana will wage an uncompromising fight to safeguard its rightful share and pursue political and legal routes against Banakacherla, adding acceptance comes only after rights are secured — conditional, not a blank cheque. The BJP‑led Centre’s own process hasn’t blessed the project: the environment panel sent it back for the Central Water Commission to examine inter‑state issues first. Returned for basics is not “approved”.
Talks happened; a committee was promised after a July 2025 meeting with the Union Jal Shakti minister. Even that committee hasn’t visibly materialised. Andhra pitches an ₹81,900‑crore scheme to push Godavari flows towards Banakacherla; Telangana says its share comes first and “surplus floodwater” spin won’t cut it. Until the Congress government in Telangana produces a cabinet decision, draft MoU or file number, a September signing is still a rumour with a date. The BJP‑led Centre and Naidu can hurry the photo‑op; they still need Telangana’s signature, not just their own.
