Bandh in Narsampet, answers missing

BRS shuts Narsampet over the removal of former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy’s statue/pedestal. One outlet says police picked up Errabelli Dayakar Rao en route; the Congress government in Telangana hasn’t bothered to explain either the demolition or the detentions.

A municipal lorry carries a broken concrete pedestal past a locked filing cabinet labelled “EXPLANATION”, while police barricades and a stationary RTC bus stand on a Telangana town street.

Narsampet’s demolition and bandh left the paperwork still out of sight.

BRS enforced a bandh in Narsampet on August 19 over the August 10 removal of a structure for former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy’s statue, with businesses and educational institutions joining in and RTC services partly hit, according to a local report. Police deployment was stepped up and “several” BRS leaders were placed under house arrest in Warangal–Hanamkonda, the same report noted — but it didn’t name who or why.

Big TV Live went further, reporting that police stopped former minister and BRS leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao on his way from Hyderabad to Narsampet and took him to Jangaon. It did not cite a police unit, section of law, or custody record, and no official confirmation was on the record at filing time.

What is on record is the Congress government’s appetite for muscle over explanation. Municipal officials earlier said the structure lacked permission; they have yet to publish the order, the land record, or even settle whether they removed a pedestal, a statue, or both. BRS leaders called the act vindictive and named the local MLA; those are allegations, and they stand unanswered by the government they’re aimed at.

If the plan was to make a small-town municipal scrap disappear, hauling away concrete and then BRS leaders is a novel strategy. Explaining the paperwork would’ve been quicker.
