Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao was placed under house arrest at his Tarnaka residence in Hyderabad on September 1 after announcing a visit to Nalgonda to meet party district president Nagam Varshit Reddy, police told UNI. A separate report said Rao later attempted to leave in a vehicle and was taken to Gandhi Nagar Police Station. Whether this was a formal arrest, preventive detention or something less legally exciting has not been made clear publicly.
Police linked the action to tensions between BJP and Congress workers in Nalgonda after clashes on August 31. Rao described the move as an attack on democracy and said the Congress government had arrested him. The government and Telangana Congress have not publicly answered that charge in the material reviewed.
The BJP has submitted a representation to the DGP seeking an “immediate, impartial and comprehensive investigation” into alleged attacks on its state and district offices and Varshit Reddy’s residence. The party also alleged assaults on family members and damage to property. Those claims, including the identities of any attackers, have not been independently established. UNI also reported a counter-allegation that BJP workers threw eggs at Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s camp office. The police action is documented; the full legal paperwork remains apparently more mobile than the BJP president was allowed to be.
