BJP discovers ‘non-serious’—ignores records

The BJP’s Telangana chief called the Congress government “non-serious” on Godavari projects. The files show inspections happened, substations were charged, and Sita Rama works and land acquisition are still moving — not abandoned. The claim is loud; the paperwork is louder.

A loudspeaker marked “NON-SERIOUS?” sits beside a large stack of Telangana irrigation inspection and project files, while a canal, pipeline and power substation appear outside a records room window.

The files record inspections, works and clearances still in progress.

Illustration generated from an editorial brief

BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao wrote an open letter accusing the Congress government under A. Revanth Reddy of a “non-serious attitude” to Godavari-basin irrigation — Medigadda–Annaram–Sundilla repairs, Sita Rama, Sammakka Sagar, even the Godavari–Cauvery link. That is a political allegation on 25 May 2026, not a finding. The records are less theatrical.

After Medigadda’s distress, an NDSA–CWC committee inspected from 23–26 October 2023 and reported on 1 November 2023; a broader committee later examined Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla in March 2024. Telangana’s Irrigation department was asked to undertake remedial measures. That proves scrutiny and directions — not the BJP’s arithmetic of “200 TMC lost” to state delay, which it didn’t source.

On Sita Rama, the state’s own pages list the Sitamma Sagar multipurpose work taken up at Rs 3,481.90 crore with L&T’s package at Rs 2,711.49 crore; forest clearances, distributory estimates and CA bits are still in process. Land acquisition notifications in Mahabubabad were still being issued and updated in July 2026. In power, the V.K. Ramavaram LI substation and its line for Sita Rama have been charged; TSTRANSCO’s plans map more Godavari-lift needs. That is implementation — uneven, yes; abandoned, no.

So the BJP gets its headline. The documents get the substance. If the BJP wants to claim exact TMC foregone, missed schedules or blocked clearances, it can table the orders and the bar charts instead of a flourish. Until then, the “non-serious” looks a lot like the party that didn’t read the files.
