Black T-shirts, big promises, Assembly-sized panic
BRS legislators were stopped at the Telangana Assembly gate over slogan-bearing protest clothing. Inside, Congress had a second quarrel waiting.
Security objections over protest clothing overshadowed competing quarrels inside the Telangana Assembly.
The Congress government in Telangana began the Assembly session by treating black T-shirts as a security emergency. On September 7, BRS legislators wearing shirts that read “Congress failed to deliver promises in 1000 Days” were stopped at the main gate, triggering jostling and the detention of leaders including K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao, according to multiple reports.
The BRS leaders later removed the shirts and sought entry. KTR questioned why black clothing could be used as political protest by Rahul Gandhi in Parliament but not by Telangana legislators. The government has not published the written rule or order that barred the shirts. It also has not publicly answered the BRS allegations that women legislators were manhandled; those claims remain allegations, with no police, medical or official security record found in the material reviewed.
Inside the House, Congress leaders separately demanded action against BRS MLC Tata/Tatha Madhu over remarks allegedly directed at Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy sought an apology from K Chandrashekar Rao. Madhu said he “did not say a word against the Speaker” and offered to withdraw the words if they were understood that way. The exact remarks remain unavailable. Congress managed two confrontations before the day was done; the promised thousand days remain the harder entry to secure.
