Black T-shirts blocked; Telangana democracy kept waiting

BRS legislators were stopped from entering the Telangana Assembly on Monday after arriving in black T-shirts carrying the slogan, “Congress failed to deliver promises in 1000 Days”. K T Rama Rao, T Harish Rao and other BRS leaders were detained and taken away, according to multiple reports. The Congress government’s answer, so far, is that the words on the shirts were the problem. The shirts themselves, police said, were not a crime.
Khairatabad Zone DCP Shilpavali said police acted on the Speaker’s instructions and would examine videos from the Assembly gate. BRS leaders alleged that police manhandled women legislators and injured some members; those allegations have not been independently established. The government and Assembly Speaker have not publicly addressed them in the material reviewed.
The BRS then called statewide protests. A separately reported demonstration at Ponnala in Siddipet blocked the Rajiv Rahadhari and led to efforts to clear the road. Claims of protests and detentions across several other districts remain largely dependent on one report. The official record has not yet supplied an arrest count, legal sections or the Speaker’s written rule on slogan-bearing clothing. For now, black T-shirts have received more procedural scrutiny than the promises printed on them.
