Bonalu holiday, election forms parked

Analysis
Asaduddin Owaisi on August 9 flagged a basic ask: let people submit their SIR enumeration forms even on the Bonalu weekend. He said AIMIM’s SIR guidance desk had received “too many complaints” that some Booth Level Officers told voters they wouldn’t take forms on Sunday, August 9 and on the Bonalu holiday, Monday, August 10. He tagged the Election Commission and the GHMC commissioner to answer it. According to the Election Commission’s own SIR instructions, BLOs are responsible for distributing, collecting and verifying these forms; electors can also file online. Whether that duty runs through holidays is exactly what the BJP‑led Centre’s ECI has left unsaid.
What we can verify: Owaisi did raise it publicly on August 9. Bonalu on August 10 is an official Telangana holiday; August 9 was Sunday. What we cannot verify from the material available: how many complaints there were, where they came from, which BLOs said what, and whether any office told BLOs to down tools for the festival.
And what we have heard back from the officials Owaisi tagged — the BJP‑led Centre’s ECI and Hyderabad’s civic boss — is nothing. If the collection was allowed, they could have said so. If it wasn’t, they could have told voters how to file online that day. Leaving it hanging is a choice, and it leaves Telangana’s electors guessing during a festival the state actually planned for.
