BRS comeback, BJP alliance off the menu
KTR says the BRS will return stronger in 2028; the Election Commission says the election is still two years away. Politics, as ever, has discovered time travel.
The next regular Telangana Assembly election is due by December 2028, unless the House is dissolved earlier.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao says the party will make a comeback in Telangana bigger than its setback. That is KTR’s forecast, not an election result. The next regular Assembly election is due by December 8, 2028, according to the Election Commission of India—unless the House is dissolved earlier.
KTR has also said the BRS will not form an alliance with the BJP for the 2028 election. In an August interview, he said the party’s immediate priority was to “win back, at home first” and remove what he called the “BJP-Congress joint venture government” in Telangana. He has separately argued that delimitation should increase Assembly seats rather than punish southern states that controlled population growth.
A June report records KTR predicting more than 90 seats for the BRS in 2028. That remains a political claim, not a count waiting to happen. The material reviewed does not establish a formal BRS resolution naming KCR as its next chief ministerial face. The Congress government has a full term to answer the prediction. The BJP, at least, has already been told it will not be sharing the ticket.
