BRS hits streets; court hits pause

BRS workers staged protests on Monday, 17 August, across Telangana — at collectorates, RDO and mandal offices — demanding pending Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak assistance be released. The party’s call, attributed to K. T. Rama Rao, saw demonstrations reported from Peddapalli, Armoor, Khammam and Kothagudem. According to the reports, the spark was an interim Telangana High Court stay issued on 12 August while hearing a challenge to the scheme’s government orders.
The Congress government’s public line: the schemes aren’t going anywhere. BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the state will “rectify the errors made by the previous administration,” inquire into where the lapse occurred — welfare departments or legal handling — and move an appeal before a Division Bench. He added funds have been flowing through the “Green Channel” since the government took office and promised action against whoever is at fault.
Two hard facts sit side by side. One, the court’s interim stay has disrupted disbursements. Two, the 2025–26 state Budget provides ₹3,683 crore for Kalyana Lakshmi/Shaadi Mubarak. What is missing is what matters to beneficiaries: how many payments are pending, how much money is stuck, and by when it will be released. The Congress government has not bothered to publish those numbers or a timeline while asking people to be patient.
