Congress draws a red line, trips on it

Konda Sushmitha picked her mother’s birthday on 19 August in Geesugonda to say the quiet part out loud: she wants Parkal, she’ll run as an independent if Congress won’t give it, and the Chief Minister doesn’t get to hand out tickets like party favours. Those points are reported by multiple outlets; the full speech isn’t public. According to published accounts, she also alleged deals around A Revanth Reddy’s family — those are her allegations, not established facts.
The TPCC Disciplinary Committee then sent a notice — not to Sushmitha, but to her mother, Forest and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha — and gave three days to explain. Committee chair Mallu Ravi called the remarks inappropriate and warned leaders about a “red line.” B Mahesh Kumar Goud added that “nobody can decide and announce their own candidature.” These are on the record as reported. The notice itself hasn’t been published.
Surekha’s reply, dated 20 August per reports, said her daughter’s views are personal and asked that the notice be withdrawn. She also urged action against leaders “orchestrating this matter” and said it’s telling when a senior BC woman leader is fair game while the leadership looks away. The letters aren’t publicly posted; the quotes are from reported copies.
Beyond that, the rumour mill is doing the heavy lifting. One report says several Congress MLAs, including ministers Adluri Laxman and Vakiti Srihari, criticised the Kondas; it also speculates on replacement names if Surekha is dropped. None of that is confirmed by a party order or a Cabinet note. As of the latest reports, no removal and no resignation have been announced.
So the position today is simple enough. A Parkal ticket fight is out in the open, the Congress is disciplining relatives instead of addressing the charge, and the BJP and TDP can watch the ruling party practice friendly fire. The “red line” seems to move — just not in the direction of clarity.
