Congress in government, protesting like opposition
The ruling party held a dharna against KCR, marched towards Erravelli and inspected properties linked to BRS leaders. Government, opposition — the roles appear to be negotiable.
The ruling party’s recent political schedule has blurred the line between government and opposition.
The Congress is in government in Telangana. Its recent political schedule, however, has looked rather like an opposition party’s: a Dharna Chowk protest demanding K. Chandrashekar Rao’s resignation, a Congress-linked mobilisation towards his Erravelli farmhouse, and inspections of properties associated with K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao.
Congress leaders said KCR should resign as MLA and Leader of the Opposition over his absence from Assembly proceedings. The demand was made at a September 6 protest attended by TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and ministers, according to reports. On September 8, police stopped Congress workers and Dalit organisations from proceeding towards KCR’s Erravelli property. BRS leaders KTR and Harish Rao were also stopped or detained, reports said. BRS allegations that police permitted Congress protesters to approach the farmhouse while restricting them remain unverified.
On September 19 and 20, Congress delegations visited the Janwada area and land near Aziznagar, alleging construction, ownership and assigned-land irregularities. Those allegations have not been established by a HYDRAA, municipal, revenue or court finding. Janwada property owner B. Pradeep Reddy was reported as saying he bought the land in 2019 and leased it to KTR.
What the record shows is not a confirmed raid. It shows a ruling party borrowing the opposition’s protest manual, one farmhouse at a time.
