Congress promised 10 grams; records show cash

The Congress promised Telangana brides gold. The paperwork, so far, shows cash.
Its 2023 Telangana manifesto promised ₹1 lakh and 10 grams of gold as an “Indiramma gift” for Hindu brides, and ₹1.6 lakh for minority brides. The existing Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak scheme provides one-time cash assistance of ₹1,00,116, according to a Telangana government order. The 2026–27 Budget-in-Brief allocates ₹3,683 crore to the schemes, but does not document a separate gold component.
Tamil Nadu has meanwhile notified and launched a narrower one-gram gold-ring scheme for babies born in government hospitals and primary health centres. The official notice says eligibility runs from 22 June 2026; the launch was held on 28 September. One state put its gold promise in a manifesto. The other put its ring in a government notice. Telangana’s records have not yet produced the missing ten grams.
