Congress protests, ECI answers with silence

The Telangana Congress will hold protests at all district headquarters on Monday, September 28, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Hyderabad protest is scheduled for 10.30 am at the Ambedkar statue on Tank Bund, according to reports quoting TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud.
Goud has also demanded an explanation over reported objections by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. An investigation reported that the two commissioners raised objections at least 14 times over 10 months, including concerns about voter registration, deletions, Form 6 and the “gradual centralisation” of electoral-roll databases. One reported objection described an action as “unauthorised and illegal”.
That account has not been independently confirmed through publicly available ECI documents. The Election Commission has not publicly answered the reported objections in the material consulted. It has, however, managed to leave the Congress with a protest plan, a resignation demand and a fairly simple question: what exactly happened inside the body supervising India’s voters? The answer, so far, remains unavailable from the institution that owns the files.
