Congress schedules six days of protest over KCR
Revanth Reddy wants KCR out as Leader of the Opposition before the Telangana Assembly session. The accounting claims remain his claims, not audited records.
The protest programme runs up to the eve of the Assembly session; the supporting records have yet to appear.
Telangana Congress workers will hold protests and two-wheeler rallies from September 1 to 6, demanding that BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao resign as Leader of the Opposition, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said. The programme is expected to culminate at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad on September 6—one day before the Assembly session begins.
Revanth made the announcement after inaugurating the Moosarambagh bridge/flyover and addressing a public meeting in Amberpet. He alleged that KCR had drawn Rs 1.24 crore in salary and that the government had spent Rs 21 crore on his security, bullet-proof vehicles and other facilities over the past 1,000 days. He put the total at Rs 22.24 crore. The figures have not been backed in the material reviewed by salary bills, attendance registers or departmental expenditure records.
BRS leader T. Harish Rao rejected Revanth’s remarks, defended KCR’s record and demanded an apology. The Assembly is scheduled to begin on September 7, according to the reported government communication to MLAs. Congress has chosen the week before it for a street campaign; the records behind its main financial charge are still waiting for their own appearance.
