Congress scolds, daughter rebels

The Congress is busy disciplining itself again. TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud said the party’s disciplinary committee has sought an explanation from minister Konda Surekha after remarks attributed to her daughter, Konda Sushmita, against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at a birthday event in Parkal on 19 August. He told reporters the party would decide its next step after receiving her reply, and warned that public broadsides invite action.
What Sushmita reportedly said is straight politics: she challenged Parkal’s sitting Congress MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy to resign and face her in a bypoll; claimed nobody could stop her from winning even if the Chief Minister campaigned for him; and said she would run as an independent if the Congress denied her a ticket. All this is attributed to a report of the event; no transcript or video has been produced here, and the Congress has not put a single line of her speech on the record to rebut.
Sushmita also aired allegations — a supposed MLC promise to her father Konda Murali, and claims of favour shown to TDP imports. Those are her claims, not established facts. There is no documentary basis in the material we reviewed and no response from the Chief Minister’s office answering them.
We have seen this movie once. In October 2025, after a similar flare-up, Surekha apologised to Revanth Reddy and called her daughter’s comments “uncalled for”, likening it to a family quarrel. The Congress would prefer this, too, be solved as a family matter. Telangana’s interest is better served by answers on the specifics Sushmita raised — and the Congress government has not bothered to give any.
