Congress wants a voter-deletion scandal, but no audit

The Musheerabad FIR records an alleged attempt involving 30 Form 7 applications. Telangana’s wider deletion data remains conveniently invisible.

A government spokesperson gestures theatrically beside a huge locked filing cabinet labelled “AUDIT”, while blank Form 7 sheets lie beneath it.

The audit remains behind the lock.

The Musheerabad voter-deletion row now has a police case, but not the statewide conspiracy being sold around it. Chikkadpally police registered FIR 299/2026 on October 6 after Electoral Registration Officer T. Praveen Kumar Reddy alleged that BJP booth-level agent S. Balachander brought 30 pre-printed Form 7 applications to Polling Station No. 210 on September 28. Election officials later reported that all 30 electors were found at their recorded addresses. [1]

The reported FIR says the BLO and supervisor refused to receive the forms. That makes this an alleged attempt to seek deletions, not proof that 30 names were removed. The public record also has an irritatingly basic problem: some reports say 30 voters, others 31; some describe one family, while the FIR-based account does not consistently establish that relationship. The original FIR, field-verification report and individual disposal orders have not been published here.

The Congress government in Telangana is happy to let the political theatre run ahead of the paperwork. Congress and AIMIM leaders have presented Musheerabad as evidence of a wider effort targeting Muslim or opposition-linked voters. The BJP denies an organised drive. Neither the wider operation nor party-level direction is established by this case. What is established is narrower, and serious enough on its own: a named BJP-linked individual faces an FIR over allegedly false Form 7 applications. [1]

The Telangana Chief Electoral Officer has said bulk Form 7 applications must be properly investigated, verified and disposed of through an order. Fine. Then publish the audit: total applications, accepted, rejected, pending, field-verified and referred for prosecution, constituency by constituency. Instead, the Congress government offers a press conference where the database should be. A government serious about protecting Telangana’s electoral roll would publish the numbers. This one has published the drama.
