Congress wants KCR out, before Assembly opens

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked Congress workers to hold protests and two-wheeler rallies across Telangana from September 1 to 6, demanding K. Chandrashekar Rao’s resignation as Leader of Opposition. The programme is reported to end at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park on September 6, a day before the Assembly is scheduled to meet.
Revanth Reddy claimed KCR had stayed away from public life and Assembly proceedings for 1,000 days. He also said KCR had drawn more than Rs 1.24 crore in salary and that the Telangana government had spent another Rs 21 crore on security, bullet-proof vehicles and related facilities — a total of over Rs 22.24 crore. Those figures have not been supported in the material available by budget papers, expenditure statements or Assembly Secretariat records. The 1,000-day absence claim is also not independently established.
KCR’s Leader of Opposition status was formally recognised by the Assembly Speaker in December 2023 after the BRS emerged as the second-largest party with 39 MLAs. The BRS has not publicly answered these specific claims in the material reviewed. Separately, working president K. T. Rama Rao has announced a week-long BRS campaign against the Congress government, including constituency-level dharnas and a September 6 Hyderabad rally.
