EC shifts SIR dates; voters wait

Telangana’s voter-roll revision is still in house-to-house checks. The draft list now lands on August 10 — not July 31 — after the ECI revised the timetable on July 15.

A Telangana voter stands beside a house door while a Booth Level Officer carries a huge calendar from a desk marked ‘Draft list’, with several revised date slips trailing behind; a queue of voters waits calmly in the background.

The revised schedule extends verification and shifts the draft electoral roll to August 10.

Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision is not in the claims-and-objections stage yet. After a July 15 order from the Election Commission of India revising the timetable, Booth Level Officers will continue house-to-house verification till August 3, the draft rolls are now due on August 10, and claims and objections run from August 10 to September 9, with final rolls slated for October 12. The qualifying date remains October 1, 2026, according to reports citing the Commission’s letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana.

This supersedes the earlier schedule that had promised a July 31 draft and objections through August 30. Telangana’s election machinery sought the change, and reports say the ECI agreed and reset the dates. The CEO Telangana site confirms its role but hadn’t posted the revised calendar on the landing page we checked.

Voters get a later window to fix errors; politicians who thrive on confusion get one less excuse. The BJP-led Centre’s favorite refrain about “clean rolls” can wait its turn — the Commission has moved the dates, and the onus is now on urban party units to show up with forms, not slogans.
