EC’s dates move; Telangana waits
Draft roll now due August 10, claims from August 10–September 9, final list on October 12 — after the Election Commission pushed Telangana’s SIR timeline. Voters get clarity; the national parties can save the theatrics for later.

Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is running on a revised clock: the Election Commission extended Booth Level Officers’ house-to-house visits to August 3 and shifted the draft roll publication to August 10, with claims and objections from August 10 to September 9. The final roll is slated for October 12. According to reports, the extension followed a submission from Telangana’s Chief Electoral Officer and representations from political parties — useful when they mean “do the work”, less so when they mean “do our drama”.
The earlier timetable — draft on July 31, claims through August 30, final on October 1 — was the plan in May–June. That plan has been overtaken. As of August 7, Telangana is in the run-up to the draft, not yet in the claims window. The Election Commission’s SIR procedure says electors who missed enumeration can file Form 6 during the claims phase, and corrections/shiftings go via Form 8; lists of claims and objections are to be posted on the CEO’s website and shared weekly with parties. So transparency isn’t a favour; it’s the rule.
For once, the calendar shift actually gives voters more time to get on the roll and fix entries. The BJP and Congress can argue later about who discovered the calendar — the dates that matter to Telangana are August 10 and October 12, not the next press conference.
