BRS deputy leader T. Harish Rao was detained on Thursday, August 27, while attending a government-employee protest outside the Hanamkonda district Collectorate. Multiple reports say police escorted him towards Subedari police station after he addressed or joined the demonstration. The paperwork explaining the action appears to be taking the scenic route.
The protest, organised by employee bodies associated with TNGOs and TGEJAC, sought implementation of the Pay Revision Commission, release of six pending dearness-allowance instalments, restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, settlement of unpaid bills, employee health cards and recruitment to vacant university non-teaching posts. Reports also describe a confrontation involving BRS workers and police. But the legal status of Rao’s removal remains unclear: no FIR, arrest memo, preventive-detention order or police explanation was found in the material reviewed. The Congress government in Telangana has not publicly answered the detention or the employees’ demands. For now, the protest has documents; the detention has questions.
