High Court says police overreached; fresh case follows

Saifabad police were reported to have registered a fresh case on September 8 against BRS leaders K. T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, D. Sudheer Reddy and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy, based on a complaint by a 33-year-old woman constable. The allegations relate to the September 7 confrontation at the Telangana Assembly entrance, when BRS legislators wearing black T-shirts with anti-Congress slogans were stopped by police. The reported sections include nine provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The complaint’s account, as reported, alleges that some leaders shouted at women police personnel, removed their T-shirts and pushed towards the Assembly entrance. These remain allegations: the FIR, complaint and any official police confirmation were not available in the material reviewed. A separate case was also reported over the same confrontation, but its FIR number and relationship to the fresh case are unclear.
The Telangana High Court, meanwhile, reportedly questioned the police action and said legislators should not be stopped from entering the Assembly, with rule violations left to the Speaker. BRS women legislators have also alleged rough handling by police and sought an apology from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The Congress government has not publicly answered the court’s central question: what authority did police have to block elected legislators? The Assembly gate now has two cases and one unanswered question.
