‘Jai Yuva’ meets Article 84(b)

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy says the state will convene a special Assembly–Council sitting in the first week of August to back 21 as the minimum age to contest Lok Sabha and Assembly seats, and send a resolution to the Prime Minister. Multiple reports carry his on-record lines and his “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Yuva” pitch. According to the Election Commission, the law today is blunt: Articles 84(b) and 173(b) set 25 for Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha candidates, with 30 for Rajya Sabha and Legislative Councils.
Reddy has also urged Narendra Modi to introduce the constitutional amendment in Parliament, with a promise that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge “will fight” for it. A state resolution can’t change the qualification on its own; it signals the demand and puts the ball in the BJP-led Centre’s court.
What is not on the record yet: an Assembly bulletin for the special sitting, the resolution text, or any response from the Union government. The proposal’s scope for Council/Rajya Sabha ages varies across reports; the only settled part is the ask to make 21 the floor for Assembly and Lok Sabha contests. The Congress-run state has said its piece. The BJP-led Centre has not bothered to answer it.
