Jurala farmers block road; Congress gets 24 hours

Farmers and leaders identified with the BJP and BRS reportedly held a roughly five-hour road blockade at Jammichedu in Jogulamba Gadwal district on September 21, demanding irrigation water from the Priyadarshini Jurala Project. Traffic on the Gadwal–Kurnool main road stopped while BJP leader D.K. Snigdha Reddy, BRS leader Basu Shyamala Hanumanthu Naidu and farmers sat on the road, according to a report. The report said officials assured protesters that water would be released into the canals within 24 hours.

The wider Jurala dispute was also reported separately: farmers said crops were drying, and some had reportedly opened the project’s head regulator themselves before officials closed it. BRS leaders attempting to reach the project were stopped or detained, according to that coverage. The protesters accused the Congress government in Telangana of ignoring the water shortage. That is their allegation; the specific official who gave the 24-hour assurance has not been identified, and the department has not published a release record in the material reviewed.

The road was cleared on a promise. Whether Jurala water followed remains the missing line in the Congress government’s account.
