KCR declares another water war
The BRS chief says he will lead a mass mobilisation over irrigation, while the safety record says Kaleshwaram needs rehabilitation first.

BRS president K. Chandrashekhar Rao has announced another “water war” against the Congress government in Telangana, saying he will personally lead a mass mobilisation if what he calls neglect of irrigation projects continues.
At a September 6 meeting of BRS MLAs and MLCs at his Erravelli residence, KCR asked legislators to raise irrigation, drinking water, unemployment, education, welfare and governance in the Assembly and Council sessions. Reports based on the meeting said the strategy could include disrupting proceedings. The campaign is expected to focus on Kaleshwaram, Palamuru-Rangareddy, and water releases from Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam.
KCR says the Congress government has failed to honour its promises and is keeping Kaleshwaram’s three barrages out of operation despite water being available. Those claims remain contested. A report on the National Dam Safety Authority’s affidavit to the Telangana High Court said Medigadda requires rehabilitation before restoration, with operational decisions resting with Telangana’s dam-safety authorities and the project authority. The state government says it is reviewing restoration in line with those recommendations. The Congress government has not publicly answered this specific “water war” announcement. Its existing position, at least, comes with a safety condition. Politics would prefer a switch; engineering has asked for repairs first.
