Khairatabad seat vacant; October poll date isn’t
The Supreme Court has left Danam Nagender’s disqualification in place. The Election Commission has not yet announced a schedule, despite the usual prediction industry getting busy.
Khairatabad has a vacant seat, but no announced polling date.
The Supreme Court’s September 24 dismissal of Danam Nagender’s challenge has left the Khairatabad Assembly seat vacant, after the Telangana High Court disqualified him with effect from April 23, 2024. The court action followed his move from the BRS to the Congress and his contesting the 2024 Secunderabad Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket while still an MLA elected on a BRS ticket. The Congress’s brief experiment with political arithmetic has now produced a vacant seat.
The Election Commission’s general guidance says casual vacancies are normally filled within six months, but it has not announced a Khairatabad notification date, polling date or electoral-roll cut-off. Claims that a notification will come in the first week of October remain predictions, not an election schedule. The Supreme Court’s written September 24 order and an official Assembly bulletin confirming the vacancy were also not available in the material consulted.
The current Assembly term runs until December 8, 2028. Khairatabad therefore has a route back to representation; it does not yet have a date on the calendar. The Congress crossed the floor quickly. The Election Commission, sensibly, has not crossed the evidence.
