Krishna dispute: AP draws, KRMB deliberates
Telangana says Andhra Pradesh continued drawing through Pothireddypadu before the Krishna board settled the 2026–27 sharing arrangement. The board’s committee met, disagreed and deferred the problem—as committees occasionally do.

Telangana has accused the Andhra Pradesh government of drawing Krishna water through the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator before the Krishna River Management Board settled the 2026–27 sharing arrangement. Andhra Pradesh says it is using water within its entitlement under the 66:34 formula. The dispute remains unresolved.
The KRMB’s three-member committee met on September 4, 2026, but reached no agreement. Telangana sought a 50:50 distribution and asked that Pothireddypadu drawal be stopped. Andhra Pradesh sought 66:34 treatment and reportedly requested about 97 TMC based on that formula. The board then said Pothireddypadu releases should be regulated with regard to common-reservoir storage and the drinking-water needs of both states. [New Indian Express; Andhra Jyothy]
Telangana’s allegation that the drawal was unauthorised is on record. So is Andhra Pradesh’s denial. The public material reviewed does not establish whether a KRMB release order existed, or independently verify the larger figures circulating about the volume drawn. KRMB’s own records show that it maintains minutes, water accounts and telemetry data. Those records would settle the argument rather more efficiently than another meeting. For now, Telangana has the grievance; Andhra Pradesh has the entitlement claim; the board has another unresolved file.
