KTR sets September 14 deadline for Sagar water

The Congress government in Telangana has until September 14 to publish a Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal water-release schedule, according to BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao. If it does not, he says he will lead a padayatra from Kodad to Halia, joined by thousands of farmers.
KTR made the announcement at a BRS farmers’ protest in Miryalaguda on September 3. The demand is for water for standing crops in the Left Canal ayacut. He also claimed that Nagarjuna Sagar held about 180 TMC and that farmers were receiving “not even a drop”. Those figures and the crop-risk claim remain claims from his speech; the research available does not include a dated reservoir bulletin, canal-discharge record or crop-impact assessment to verify them.
The water dispute is not entirely new. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh officials clashed over canal releases on August 26, while the Krishna River Management Board was handling disagreements over releases and allocations, with another meeting scheduled for September 4. The Telangana irrigation department has not published a current release schedule in the material reviewed. The Congress government now has a date, a canal and a march route to answer for.
