KTR threatens Speaker no-trust motion after gate showdown
The BRS says police stopped its black-clad legislators at the Assembly gates; police deny indecent conduct and say they acted over protest slogans.
A gate dispute over black clothing widens into a question of procedure and accountability.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao said the party would move a motion against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar “if necessary”, after BRS legislators were stopped at the Assembly gates on September 7. The motion has not been filed, and no procedural notice has been reported.
The legislators arrived in black clothing carrying protest slogans against the Congress government’s record. KTR and former minister T. Harish Rao were detained, according to reports. BRS leaders alleged that police pulled V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy’s sari, dragged P. Sabitha Indra Reddy by her hair and grabbed a woman legislator by the throat. Those allegations have not been independently established.
The Telangana High Court reportedly questioned the police action and directed the Director General of Police to identify officers responsible, while police denied indecent conduct and said they acted on the Speaker’s instructions. The Congress government has yet to produce the written instruction. For now, the Speaker faces a proposed motion, and the government faces a rather less comfortable question: why did Assembly security need a constitutional drama over black clothes?
