MEA bars US leg, UK fine
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s US stop was scrubbed after the BJP-led Centre denied political clearance. The UK leg got a green light. The state says the university tie-ups go on — just without the person elected to sign them.
The UK leg was cleared; the US programme was not.
News, not spin: the US leg of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s tour is off after the Ministry of External Affairs refused political clearance. The same MEA cleared his UK programme. According to a PTI-syndicated brief citing the Telangana CMO, the Centre told the state “clearance from political angle is denied,” and Reddy will return to Hyderabad instead of heading to Boston.
The MEA’s line, via its spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, is that a chief minister’s foreign schedule must be “appropriate to the office held and the purpose of the visit,” and that “in this particular case” the US programme did not meet that bar. He also underlined that London was fine — just not America. The ministry did not identify which event supposedly failed the test.
The CMO called it a political denial and said the official TelanganaRising delegation will keep its US meetings: proposed engagements with Harvard, MIT, Northeastern and Virginia Tech, and MoUs in education and research. Reddy said the point was to bring top institutions to Telangana under the Centre’s own NEP — beyond politics and elections.
What is missing is the reason. The BJP-led Centre hasn’t bothered to say what, exactly, in the US agenda crossed the line that the UK did not.
