Nagender goes to SC; Khairatabad waits

Danam Nagender’s challenge to his disqualification as Khairatabad MLA is listed before the Supreme Court on September 23, after the Court agreed to hear it urgently. The published cause list records the date; it does not record a stay, restoration of his membership or any other relief. The paperwork, unlike political speculation, has limits.

The Telangana High Court had disqualified Nagender with effect from April 23, 2024, and declared the seat vacant. He had won Khairatabad on a BRS ticket before contesting the Secunderabad Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate. The case followed petitions by BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and BJP MLA Alleti Maheshwar Reddy after Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar dismissed their petitions on March 11, 2026. The Supreme Court’s July 2025 judgment records both proceedings.

A report has meanwhile put Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav’s name in circulation as a possible BRS candidate if a bypoll is held. There is no formal BRS announcement or candidate list. For now, Khairatabad has a Supreme Court date and a rumoured candidate. Congress has the vacancy it helped create, and the BJP has a petition in the file. Telangana politics remains fully staffed.
