Pothireddypadu: AP took 140 TMC, says BRS
Jagadish Reddy alleges Andhra Pradesh siphoned Krishna water through Pothireddypadu; cites ‘floodwater-only’ rule and asks what the BJP-led Centre’s KRMB was watching.
The disputed draw awaits the Krishna River Management Board’s telemetry data.
BRS MLA G. Jagadish Reddy on 23 August said Andhra Pradesh “illegally” lifted 140 TMC from the Krishna via the Pothireddypadu head regulator — water he says should only be flood releases. He made the charge at Telangana Bhavan and questioned why Telangana’s Congress government wasn’t securing irrigation draws for farmers while AP ran Pothireddypadu full tilt. According to his statement, Pothireddypadu is meant to take only floodwater, not regulated releases.
What is settled: the Pothireddypadu system and Srisailam Right Main Canal sit under the Krishna River Management Board’s jurisdiction — the BJP-led Centre’s body on this basin. The KRMB’s own 2021–22 report records AP drawing 109.694 TMC through Pothireddypadu that year, and notes a telemetry station with level-and-velocity sensors on the canal. If 140 TMC has gone this season, the log should say so. If it hasn’t, the log should say that too. Either way, the instrument exists; the silence is a choice.
BRS leaders have been pressing the point all month — flagging 25,000 cusecs through the head regulator and alleging 4–5 TMC a day — and AP police even stopped a BRS team from visiting the site on 13 August, saying they lacked permission. The 140 TMC total remains Jagadish Reddy’s allegation pending KRMB’s discharge data and dates. The Congress government in Andhra Pradesh can release the numbers any time; the Congress government in Telangana can demand them; and the BJP-led Centre’s KRMB can publish the telemetry it already sits on. Until one of them bothers, AP’s draw and the Centre’s oversight look exactly like they sound.
