Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday, 25 July 2026, following weeks of protests over alleged irregularities in NEET-UG 2026. All India Radio reported the resignation and cited his stated concern to avoid students being caught in a “web of confusion.”
Telangana reactions split along party lines. BJP’s Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Karimnagar MP, welcomed the move, calling it proof of the BJP’s “Nation First, Party Next, Self Last” philosophy, as quoted by Siasat’s roundup of state reactions. Telangana Congress leaders claimed credit for pressure on the Union government; Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud said the resignation was the result of Rahul Gandhi’s campaign and a victory for protesting students, according to the same report.
From the BRS side, senior leader T. Harish Rao called the resignation a “major victory” for youth in a social media post carried by Siasat. No formal party statement from BRS had been published in the sources consulted at the time of writing.
Earlier, Pradhan had told Parliament there was no evidence of a widespread NEET-UG paper leak; he later resigned as the controversy persisted.
