Rajagopal Reddy waits for Brahma’s permission
At a Munugode YSR anniversary event, the Congress MLA entertained “CM” slogans and said even Brahma could not stop him if the time came.
The leadership question awaits another round of clearance.
Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy has publicly entertained talk of him becoming Telangana chief minister, leaving the Congress with one more leadership question to carry into its Assembly session.
At a YSR death-anniversary programme in Munugode on September 2, supporters reportedly raised “CM, CM” slogans. Rajagopal Reddy responded: “If that time comes, even Brahma cannot stop it,” according to two reports. He also said he would work to bring the Congress back to power and continue “Rajanna Rajyam”.
Rajagopal Reddy, who represents Munugode, defeated BRS candidate Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy by 40,590 votes in the 2023 election, according to the Election Commission’s statistical report. Telangana is currently led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, according to the state government portal.
The remark is not evidence of a formal leadership challenge: no Congress resolution, demand for a change of chief minister or organised campaign has been established. Earlier reporting said Rajagopal Reddy had sought a Cabinet berth and warned he could become chief minister if denied one. The Congress has not publicly responded to the latest remark. Its Assembly session is scheduled to begin on September 7. Brahma, for now, remains the only Congress high command apparently consulted.
