Roll first, drama later
ECI’s revised SIR calendar puts Telangana’s draft rolls on August 10. Parties can posture all week; the actual claims window hasn’t opened yet.

Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision is on a new clock. The Election Commission’s May 14 plan had a July 31 draft roll; a subsequent update extended BLO house-to-house visits to August 3 and moved draft-roll publication to August 10, with final rolls due October 12, according to the state CEO’s briefings reported this month. The claims-and-objections phase begins only after August 10 — not yet.
The ECI’s own note calls SIR a participatory exercise and asks parties to deploy Booth Level Agents at every booth. Telangana has 35,985 BLOs, 25,886 BLAs and 3.39 crore electors on record as of May 12. The qualifying date is October 1, 2026. In other words: do the work now, argue later.
The state CEO has said voters missing in the draft need not panic — Form 6 can restore entries — and that every voter was given two forms, one retained as acknowledgement. Pre-SIR checks flagged minor anomalies while BLOs each cover 800–1,000 electors, but those are verification workloads, not deletions.
That has not stopped politics. The Congress chief minister has alleged a BRS–BJP plot to scrub Congress voters; that’s his charge, not an electoral finding. The BRS, for its part, has told its cadres to guard against bogus entries and ensure genuine voters aren’t dropped, which is exactly what BLAs exist to do. The BJP’s favourite role, as usual, is audience participation.
The calendar, not the soundbite, decides what counts: the draft roll lands August 10, and that is when the numbers speak.
