Six months, several polls, and no timetable
Telangana may be heading into a crowded election calendar, but the dates remain mostly political weather forecasting.
Telangana’s possible election calendar remains without official dates.
Telangana could face Assembly, Legislative Council, municipal and local-body elections over the next six months. The timetable, however, has not arrived. The speculation has.
The Supreme Court’s available judgment records Danam Nagender’s 2023 election from Khairatabad on a BRS ticket and the subsequent defection litigation. His disqualification and the resulting vacancy have been reported, but no Election Commission of India notification for a by-election was found in the material reviewed. The report saying the Assembly and Secretariat would send vacancy information “in a day or two” remains an assertion without a cited letter or official statement.
Two graduates’ constituencies — Warangal–Khammam–Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar–Rangareddy–Hyderabad — are established Legislative Council constituencies. Their next election schedule has not been officially located. The Telangana State Election Commission website does list 2026 material relating to 117 municipalities and six municipal corporations, along with electoral-roll preparation. It does not, by itself, establish which bodies are still awaiting polls or when they will vote.
So Telangana may get a six-month election season. For now, it has a six-month rumour season, with paperwork still somewhere behind the curtain.
