Surekha ‘sacked’, cabinet list disagrees
Reports say the Revanth Reddy government sent a removal recommendation to the Governor. The government’s own website still lists Konda Surekha as a minister.
The reported recommendation and the government’s cabinet page offer different versions of the paperwork.
The Congress government in Telangana is reported to have recommended Konda Surekha’s removal from the cabinet after she refused to resign. The recommendation, reported by two Telugu publications on September 3, was allegedly sent to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla through the Chief Minister’s Office.
That is the reported position. The official position is less dramatic: Telangana’s Council of Ministers page still lists Surekha as Minister for Environment & Forests and Endowment, representing Warangal East. The Governor’s office website explains that ministers hold office during the Governor’s pleasure, but no Surekha-related dismissal notification or acceptance order was found on its publicly searchable pages.
The TPCC disciplinary committee had reportedly recommended action in the dispute involving Surekha and her daughter, Konda Sushmita. Surekha met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi on September 3, rejected calls to resign and said it was unfair to issue her a notice over remarks she had not made.
So far, the Congress has produced a reported recommendation and the government website has produced a minister. The paperwork is still deciding which one is real.
