Telangana asks for time; ECI keeps the calendar
The Chief Electoral Officer sought up to three more weeks to clear the SIR backlog. Approval and a revised final-roll date remain unconfirmed.
Telangana is waiting for a response on its request to extend the electoral-roll revision schedule.
Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy has asked the Election Commission of India for up to three more weeks to complete the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, according to multiple reports. The request comes as notice delivery and hearings remain pending, including nearly 40 lakh notices reported as yet to be delivered.
The original schedule set September 16 as the deadline for claims and objections, October 15 for disposal of cases and October 19 for publication of the final roll. If the request is approved, publication could move to late November or early December, reports said. That remains a projection, not a revised official date.
Reddy was reported as saying, “We are waiting for EC’s response.” The ECI has not been found to have approved, rejected or modified the request, and no revised timetable has been publicly located. Telangana is therefore being asked to work to an October 19 deadline while waiting for the authority controlling the calendar to decide whether the calendar still exists.
