BJP leaders and workers protested at Chintakunta canal on Karimnagar’s outskirts on Monday, September 21, demanding water for Ganesh idol immersion scheduled for Wednesday. Several protesters were detained after a confrontation with police. Reports attributed to protesters alleged that police used lathis; a separate account also described police using lathis, but no official police statement was found.
The Hans India reported that 500 cusecs were later released from the Sri Ram Sagar Project system, with another 3,000 cusecs expected to follow. The water was expected to reach Chintakunta by the next night. That is the reported sequence, not proof of cause: no irrigation order or district administration statement establishes that the protest triggered the release. The Congress government in Telangana has not publicly clarified the figures or the plan in the material reviewed.
The BJP’s demand got a number attached to it eventually. The police action still has only one side’s account.
