Awarapan 2’s ‘81.5 cr’ is a vibe
The sequel’s buzz is real. The weekend number doing the rounds isn’t — not yet on any record that counts.
The buzz is loud; the public tally is still blank.
Awarapan 2, a Hindi sequel to the 2007 Emraan Hashmi hit, opened on August 14, 2026, with Emraan back as Shivam, Nitin Kakkar directing and Bilal Siddiqi writing. Vishesh Films’ teaser promised “the next chapter” and dated the comeback; first as April 3 in the announcement, later moved to August 14. That much is on the record.
What isn’t: the collections everyone is forwarding. Box-office discussions this weekend floated an “incredible 81.5 cr India-net OW” for the Independence Day frame, and a ₹23.4 cr opening day with a ₹75–85 cr weekend projection. Those are estimates in user posts, not audited tallies or a studio/distributor statement.
The Numbers — the database that bothers to publish receipts — currently shows no India total at all and only US$27,579 from New Zealand. Vishesh Films’ own promo doesn’t claim an 81.5 either. So yes, the buzz looks healthy; the cash register, on the public record, hasn’t been counted yet.
