Bachannapet wants water, not meetings

A report says BRS-backed farmers blocked the road in Bachannapet, Jangaon, demanding Godavari water. The Congress government is still “reviewing”.

A dry Telangana farm lies beside a locked irrigation gate, while a tall stack of meeting files and microphones blocks the canal; a small queue of farmers waits near the parched fields.

Bachannapet farmers are demanding water as the irrigation file remains under review.

A report on Sunday said farmers in Bachannapet mandal, Jangaon district, held a BRS-backed dharna and road blockade demanding immediate supply of Godavari water to their fields. Protesters said crops were drying without irrigation and asked that diversion and supply snags be fixed so water reaches the tail end. The same demand has surfaced here before. In March 2025, a similar BRS-led protest in Bachannapet pressed for filling local ponds with Godavari water.

Two BRS-linked speakers alleged “some irrigation officials” were helping those obstructing water to the mandal. That is their allegation; the report names no officials and gives no documents. It also does not carry a police or irrigation-department response, a headcount, or canal-release data.

The broader file is not in dispute: the state itself says Krishna–Godavari issues are live and that it would place details before the legislature, and in June the Congress chief minister said he asked the BJP-led Centre to support talks with Maharashtra for better use of Godavari waters. Farmers in Bachannapet asked for water; they got another round of meetings. The Congress government can brief a dais; it can also open a gate.
