Chennai Love Story counts, claims, caveats
Kiran Abbavaram’s Chennai Love Story opened July 24. The early “record” numbers doing the rounds are tracker estimates, not audited filings. Read the fine print before the victory lap.
The film’s early box-office figures remain tracker estimates.
Chennai Love Story, starring Kiran Abbavaram and Sri Gouri Priya and directed by Ravi Namburii (spelled variously by different pages), released worldwide on July 24. That part is settled — the makers announced July 24, and previews recorded the same.
What is not settled is the first big number. A Telugu portal’s box-office page calls ₹10.45 crore the worldwide opening-day haul — and in the same breath lists Day 1 at ₹4.95 crore and ₹10.45 crore as the India net after two days. Same page, two stories. The stronger reading is Day 1 India net ₹4.95 crore, two-day India net ₹10.45 crore.
Sacnilk, a popular tracker that says its data are compiled and approximate, estimates three-day worldwide gross at ₹24.78 crore (India gross ₹19.78 crore, overseas ₹5.00 crore) and three-day India net at ₹17.20 crore, with Andhra Pradesh–Telangana contributing ₹17.40 crore of India gross over those three days. Useful context, but still an estimate, not a producer filing.
Producers Sai Rajesh and SKN put the date out on the record. None of the research turned up an official collections statement from the production or distributor. Until one appears, the “₹24.78 crore worldwide in three days” line is Sacnilk’s estimate, and the “₹10.45 crore opening day worldwide” needs a health warning — the site that says it also says the opposite.
Telangana audiences showed up; the AP–TS share in Sacnilk’s table makes that obvious. The arithmetic just needs to stop changing mid-page before anyone in Delhi tries another sermon about ‘South numbers’.
